Assistance with recovery from substance addiction.* Supports calming and helps reduce nervousness caused by neurotransmitter imbalance resulting from substance abuse, stress, insomnia, and depression.
Passages Serenity helps increase inhibitory or relaxing neurotransmitters that have been worn down by substance abuse and stress. Passages Serenity is designed to help restock the inadequate levels of serotonin and GABA, the two main calming or inhibitory neurotransmitters. Serotonin and GABA act as buffers to stress from your inner or outer environment. Deficiencies in these neurotransmitters can be manifested by anxiety, sleep disturbances, depression, and cravings—the opposite of serenity. Supplementation with Passages Serenity supports the neurotransmission responsible for calmness, good sleep, and well-being. After withdrawal from the addictive drug of choice, begin Passages Serenity along with Passages Replenishment.
(Note: The recommended dosage is one Passages Serenity capsule in the morning and one in the evening.)

5-HTP supports the production of serotonin. Serotonin is an inhibitory (calming) neurotransmitter that is synthesized by enzymes that act on tryptophan and/or 5-HTP. A great deal of research has been performed on serotonin and has revealed it to be a target for symptoms like depressed mood, compulsive behavior, anxiety, and sleep disorders. Supplementing 5-HTP can raise serotonin levels and help relieve these symptoms.
Magnesium taurate is metabolized to taurine and magnesium. Taurine is another calming (or inhibitory) neurotransmitter with neuromodulatory and neuroprotective actions. Supplementing with taurine has a beneficial, supportive effect on GABA function and is important for preventing overstimulation resulting from high levels of excitatory amino acids. Taurine is considered neuroprotective (protects nerves) because it prevents the harmful effects caused by free radicals to nerves. This is important in drug addiction until the toxins are cleared from the body. Magnesium is essential for muscle contraction and transmission of nerve impulses and is a co-factor for over three hundred enzymatic reactions crucial for balanced metabolism. Reactions catalyzed by these magnesium-requiring enzymes are fatty acid synthesis, protein synthesis, and glucose metabolism.
Theonine is a GABA agonist (it acts like GABA) that also supports inhibition (calmness.) It is a unique amino acid found in green tea that has been found to have a relaxing and calming effect on humans.
Peptones or Lactium® is hydrolysate of milk protein, which has relaxing properties and has been found to reduce stress in experimental models.
Glycine is needed for proper central nervous system function. It is an amino acid that inhibits the neurotransmitters causing overexcitation manifested by seizure activity, hyperactivity, and mania in bipolar depression. Along with GABA, glycoine has an important inhibitory (or calming) role in the nervous system.
Vitamin B6 benefits a multitude of our body processes. One of the key benefits of vitamin B6 is that it is used in combination with a series of enzymes to process amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks for neurotransmitters. B6 is crucial for the metabolism of amino acids in the intestine and it assists specific amino acids to be absorbed and utilized by the body. The formation of neurological chemicals such as serotonin, dopamine, and epinephrine depend on Vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 is also essential for the maintenance of immune system function. B6 has been shown to have specific clinical effects on the nervous system, including stress and anxiety reduction and improvement in depression. When taking B6, be sure you are ingesting less than 250 mg per day, as higher doses have been associated with a nerve disorder called neuropathy.
